Whatever the weather, the WASPs Cross Country races are always fun! Each race always attracts a large number of children, from competitive to fun runners, keen to run. Split into three categories, children compete over three weeks for individual and team placings.
Details of the Event
At the first race, there will be a Year 3/4 girls race, a Year 3/4 boys race, a Year 5/6 girls race and a Year 5/6 boys race - ALL RACES COUNT TOWARDS A SCHOOL’S TOTAL. A maximum of 8 children are allowed to compete per race per school (first 4 athletes count towards team score as normal).
At the second race (relay), each school is allowed to bring a maximum of 3 teams of 5 athletes (from any year group) – 2/3 boys or girls in each team.
We ask all schools taking part to provide at least one person as team manager, and also two marshals who will have a pre-arranged marshalling point along the route. A member of staff should always be with the team, parents are able to marshal.
Trainers must be worn as part of the course is tarmac and unsuitable for spikes.
Marshals should collect and wear a WASPs fluorescent bib from the organisers at the beginning of each event and to return it at the end of the day's races. Marshals should keep the pathway clear of obstruction and make sure children are going the right way. Please keep an eye out for children who maybe injured, lost or upset
It is each school's responsibility to ensure the behaviour of their children and spectators. Please be vigilant and ensure that no one obstructs the runners at any point, especially at the end when the children need to receive their position number in a sensible manner.
Spectators are asked to remain at the start/finish area during the race. Do not enter the runners area until the whole race has finished.
Each school is responsible for their own first aid. This includes injuries, breathing difficulties, administrating medicines (e.g. inhalers) etc.
Goldsworth Park Recreation Ground & Lake
The park is a public place. Woking Borough Council permits us to use it for our Cross Country Races each year so please help by keeping a close eye on the children at all times. Do not let them wander around the course when they are not taking part. As requested by the council, please keep the park tidy and take your rubbish home.
There are no toilets available at the park.
